Couples, the term itself gives us Goosebumps, a romantic feeling, a sense of being in love and being loved. This concept lures inside us when we think about relation. However the world’s most favourite comic couple gives us different goals of relation. Yes, you have guessed it right the most infamously famous characters Harley Quinn and her counterpart the clown prince Joker. Though Joker has appeared in many batman comic in respect to Harley Quinn yet she has not let any stone untouched to achieve the status that she have been given. From being a psychiatrist who was being abused in her childhood to a men beater psychopath who proved her will in front of a persona like clown prince is worth appreciation. Joker is too mature for few people to connect too, however the character of Harley Quinn is drawn in such a way with such minute details that it is impossible to not to connect with such character. Time and again Harley reached to our mind played with it and shown her darkest and deepest side.
Here are the few reasons that will reveal why Harley Quinn is way than scarier than that of the Joker.
The Development of Her Character
What interests’ you more?
To watch a character that was bad throughout the comic or the character who has developed to be the ultimate queen of the villain kingdom. The crystal clear difference between Harley Quinn and the Joker lies on their characterisation. Joker the clown prince was bad throughout the comic and also in film but in Harley’s cases the woman who was renowned psychiatrist accept the mental torture done to her and evolves to be the most villainous female in the history of comic. She has portrayed herself from ordinary to extraordinary one. Though she started her journey under Joker but later has become a storyteller for herself.
Dealing with Own Problem
Duelling between what to do and what not do. Choosing the wrong path, regretting, asking for forgiveness and not even getting it, traumatises any human. The mental condition that Harley has gone through is scary. Apart from the torture that Joker did to check her worth, the mistakes that she had done and regrets that she had inside her connects with the audience. The conflict between right and wrong that is finally won by evil is worthy of making her as a tragic character. Once one loses everything you became unstoppable. Something like that happened to her resulting a fearful woman who won our heart.
Determined to Choose Wrong
Her madness her chaos was wholeheartedly welcomed by her without any denial. From the very beginning her decision was towards being bad. She had fallen for Joker and purposely joined him in his evil work. Being a criminal was her choice not her fate. Her moral sense in several ways pointed out her flaws but she refused it and walked in the evil path. Joker had no conscious thus for him everything is right and everything is wrong. But the one who defies one’s conscious to do evil is more dangerous.
Her Costumes are Worth Drooling for
Costumes worn by her give spice to her character. Be it cartoon, comic books or in the film the colours are lively sporty that adds up a spunk to her character. She became from just a side character to the cosplay idol for parties. Her makeup her hair and the way she carries is worth watching. She has chosen to give herself a complete makeover. Unlike Joker she refused to be traditional Harley Quinn portrayed in comics. Like her character she chooses to change her dressing sense that is even crazier.
A villain without weapon is similar to that of a superhero without powers. Well can you relate such things? I guess no. The clown evil prince does not need any such weapon as his best weapon is her brain which is enough to cope up even with his deadliest enemy Batman. Though, he has given a knife, the symbolic Joker knife, in the series played by Heath ledger. And the Suicide Squad Joker played by Jared Ledo was given a gun. But Harley and her themed toy the hammer gives edges to her character. That heavy hammer is enough to take the shit out of anyone along with her crazy dynamic and fearless attitude. One boom and the enemy is splashed then and there only.
Our choice of animal describes our nature. Hyenas are quite a eye catching animals used by this deadly woman who defies her living condition to become the one she wants to be. A bulldog running towards you with teeth open takes the life out of one. Well what you think about hyenas pet by such a woman. Though owned by Joker but their loyalty was towards Harley.
William Shakespeare once said “what’s in the name?” It is quite appropriate in the most of the cases. However Harley Quinn defies his views. Her comic name Harley Quinn is the short form of her real name Harleen Frances Quinzel suitably matches her persona. Mr. J is the short name of Joker yet failed to achieve that spunk. Throughout his character we see him constant no transition in his personality thus his name Mr. J remains mystery but not in the case of Harley.
Story of Harleen Frances Quinzel
Harley Quinn before being what she is famous for was a PhD hold psychiatrist who even at that state never back down to take the challenging roles. She showed interest in Joker case in the Asylum of Arkham where possibly no psychiatrist would have accepted him. Her character from the beginning has showed her obsession towards facing challenge. The one who knows about her potential is more dangerous than the one who has no clarity about it. Her ambition was much bigger even when she was just a psychiatrist which culminated her into the greatest evil woman of the DC World.
Sometime the character was drawn as a supportive character. But later on has story to tell, Harley Quinn is exceptionally beautiful smart and determined woman who has her own sufferings, ordeals to overcome which she does and does it very well.
